Ojo Andino Peruvian contemporary artists
Imago Mundi - Luciano Benetton Collection..2016
A collage of visions - painters, sculptors, video artists, illustrators, textile artists, engravers, watercolourists and ceramic artists - that reveal Peruvian contemporary art and the culture, traditions and energy of a country and its people. 140 artworks (including the magical works of 20 artists in the Peruvian Amazon, with their world steeped in symbolism and mysticism), which, through colours, abstract graphic elements, interventions that reference magical-shamanic practices, material consistency and visionary and conceptual variations, together compose a mosaic of tracks and expressions, gestures, poetics and materiality that expose the Peru of today and yesterday. Ojo Andean Peru. Peruvian contemporary artists is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12 cm format.

World Contemporary Public Ceramic Art
Zhang Yushan..2006
Zhang Yushan’s book World Contemporary Public Ceramic Art addresses a very important aspect of world ceramic art hitherto not written about in China - that of public sculpture. His work is encyclopaedic in scope, spanning 30 countries on five continents, with biographical details on 130 artists. And of course, Chinese ceramists making public art are well represented. An introduction by well-known American ceramic artist Vice-president of the International Academy of Ceramics Wayne Higby precedes four main chapters: Architectural Ceramics and Murals, Outdoor Ceramic Sculpture, Installations, Landscape Ceramics and Brickwork. Within these chapters, each artist has at least a single page, often a larger spread with up to a dozen high-quality photos of their work. This is the first and only Chinese language book of its kind available today. It’s an impressive, large format high-quality glossy publication with more than 240 pages. To mention a selection of the 130 represented artists would be to do the others a disservice. Suffice it to say that here you will find most high-profile public ceramic artists with an international reputation, as well as a few pleasant surprises. It is enlightening to see just what a huge role ceramics play in the realm of public art. Please note that this book is written mostly in Chinese, so it is primarily for that market. However, artists’ names and country of origin are also provided in English and the images speak a thousand words in any language. For the non-Mandarin speaker, World Contemporary Public Ceramic Art still represents an insightful look into, and intriguing perspective on the world of public sculpture and will be an important reference work for anyone researching international ceramics or public art. The author Zhang Yushan (left), now in his mid-thirties, is himself a respected Chinese ceramic artist and Director of the Ceramic Program at Central South University of Forestry and Technology. He is also Art Director and Overseas Curator of the Shanghai Jingzhe Art Association and Overseas Curator of the Wison Art Center, Shanghai. He is also the Director of the Hunan Province Ceramic Art Association, a member of the respected Gaoling International Academic Society and besides this holds several other positions. He has also been involved in the preparation and planning of several major ceramic art events in China, e.g. the 2002 Foshan International Show and most recently the 2006 Jingdezhen International Ceramic Exposition.

Carlos Runcie Tanaka: The Pleasures of Simultaneity
Ricardo Pau-Llosa, Sculpture Magazine..2011
Initial approaches to the sculptures and installations of Carlos Runcie Tanaka, a Peruvian artist of British and Japanese descent who lives and works in Lima, disclose an aesthetic mission based on intuiting ideas through a complex theater of abstract and referential images in which light and color play a significant role. The more subtle the stagecraft, the more enveloping and provocative the theme—relationships between symbolic language and nature, inner ripplings of internal time consciousness, ambiguities that emerge when apprehending a ritual while enacting it—the more the works clarify into a central, abiding preoccupation: how approaching the infinite within the context of visual art entails the coalescing of two or more systems of representation and reflection. This layering of expressive systems is what awakens the reverberative nature of aesthetic experience targeted on a philosophical idea, and the same layering occurs in our participation in and theatrical experience of ritual.

The Passion and Pulse of Clay
Jan Garden Castro, Ceramics Art and Perception..2012
Carlos Runcie-Tanaka has survived a near-drowning, a heart attack and two following surgeries. Eighteen years ago, Runcie-Tanaka met James Turrell in his studio in Flagstaff, Arizona. Turrell advised the young artist, "Peru will be a difficult scenario for your work, you should think about moving to the US..." Yet his homeland of Peru has sent him to represent his country at art biennials in Venice, Sao Paulo, Havana, Caracas, Lima and Cuenca. Runcie-Tanaka's art is, aesthetically, in the highest ranks.
